english poetry presentation Flashcards
Poem name, and how it goes
Swift things are beautiful:
Swallows and deer,
And lightning that falls
Bright-veined and clear,
Rivers and meteors,
Wind in the wheat,
The strong-withered horse,
The runner’s sure feet.
And slow things are beautiful:
The closing of day,
The pause of the wave
That curves downward to spray
The ember that crumbles,
The opening flower,
And the ox that moves on
In the quiet of power.

Parallelism
The first Stanza is talking about how swift things are beautiful and the second how slow things are, this is parallelism comparing the different ways of how they are beautiful.
Why do I like this poem?
I liked this poem because of how it tells that everything in a certain perspective and pace is beautiful. Instead of being annoyed of lighting and meteors, wind and wheat, it tells that we should be happy that these events occur, bringing the life into our lives. I liked this poem because it shows that life, and the world is a miracle to appreciate.
Theme of the Poem
The world has beautiful moments in both short bursts, and long duration. Everything is beautiful in their own way. The world has beautiful moments in both short bursts which are beautiful in the moment and long things that are beautiful in duration. Everything in the world is beautiful in their own way, in bursts and duration, and we need to admire it.
