Allegory
Often it is a symbolic narrative that has not only a literal meaning,
but a larger one understood after reading the entire story or poem.
Alliteration
Repetition of a consonant sound to draw the reader’s attention to particular words and often to affect
Allusion
A direct/indirect reference to a familiar figure
Anaphora
The repetition of one or more words at the beginning of more than one sentence to emphasise the word(s) being spoken.
Assonance
Repetition of a vowel sound to create a specific mood
Connotation
The emotional suggestions attached to words beyond their strict definitions
Consonance
The close repetitions of identical consonant sounds before and after vowels

The comparisons of things that are different
Euphemism
An understatement, is used to lessen the effect of a statement

A figure of speech in which something is called by a new name that is related in meaning to the original thing or concept
