In the stories in another country and a worn path. Compare Phoenix Jackson and the major. How the way they look at life the same and different. Use examples from the story. (15 sentences)

A

In a worn path, Phoenix jackson’s son is sick and can possibly be dying. So instead of sitting around moping, she goes on a dangerous and difficult journey to make sure he is better. She had many obstacles on the way. She encountered a hunter and his dog and they could have killed her any second. But that didn’t stop her from continuing on with her journey. Also she had trouble seeing, she was thirsty, and most likely starving, but the thought of her grandson’s well being kept her going. The Major in the story in another country had another view of things. When his wife was sick, he didn’t really do much about it. In the story it tells that when she was sick he didn’t go to the hospital for 3 days. And then after that he just went to the hospital with a black band on the sleeve of his uniform and then went back to the army. And then when he was thinking about it after the other soldier said he wanted to get married he started crying. Unlike phoenix jackson, all he did was cry about it and act sad. He didn’t go out of his way to make her better. But even though they had different reactions, they both had sort of the same situation where someone they loved was sick or dying. They just both handled the situation differently.

In a winter dream, Dexter realizes that Judy isn’t the beauty he thought she was. Why was he upset? What does beauty mean to him? (15 sentences)

A

When Dexter realized Judy wasn’t the beauty he thought she was, he got upset because in both the relationships he was in it wasn’t working. He thought before when he had Judy, he thought they were going to get married and thought that they were in love because of how beautiful he thought she was. Also, how he was fascinated by the way she was. But then, later on he started realizing that she really didn’t love him because when he asked her to marry him, she wouldn’t accept it. And also, when she went to that party she kissed another man. And many other things. Then when he found Irene, she fell in love with him and his family. They were even about to get married. But the only thing bad about that was that he was only with her to get Judy jealous. And when Judy found out he was about to get married, she decided to come and make him like her again. But of course she only did that for her own selfish reason. Then Dexter started to realize that she wasn’t as beautiful as he thought she was. Especially after she did marry a guy that treated her the exact way she treated many other guys. Dexter’s problem was that he would judge a book by its cover. And instead of looking at the personality, he went by looks instead and by outside beauty because at the time, Judy’s beauty was all that mattered to him. But because of that, not only did Dexter’s relationships not turn out good, he also ruined many opportunities he could have had because he left all of them for Judy. That’s why he was upset after he realized that Judy wasn’t the beauty he thought she was.
