simile

It is used when the name of a thing is substituted for that of another term associated with it.
metonymy
It is a form a form of metonymy which uses a part of a whole or vice versa to describe or refer more vividly to something.
synecdoche
It is a statement that seems to be contradictory but is actually true.
paradox
It is an expression used to mean the opposite.
irony
It is directly addressing an abstract thing or concept, or some dead or absent person as though it were present or alive.

It is a way of describing a present or current condition of a person, event, or place by alluding to or referring to a biblical, historical, literary, or mythical event, place, or character.

end marks
It is used to mark the end of a thought or an idea. When coordinating conjunctions are omitted in compound sentences, this is used to replace them.
semicolon (;)
It is used to introduce a list, but not when the list is preceded by an action or linking verb, to show salutation in a business letter, and to show time.
colon (:)
It is used to divide syllables in a word, to divide compound numbers, to put words together to form a compound modifier, and to separate a female’s maiden name with the married name
hyphen (-)
It is used show omission of a letter from a word for the purpose of shortening the word and show possession.
apostrophe (‘)
It is used to show number ranges
en-dash (–)
It is used to put emphasis on the word/group of words that show interruption in a sentence
em-dash (—)
These are used for words/group of words that do not strictly relate to the main idea of the sentence.
