Basically any letter that is not a vowel
Nouns
Name a person, place, or thing
Hyphen
The sign -
Used to join words to indicate that they have a combined meaning or that they are linked in the grammar of a sentence.
Compound Noun
A noun that is made up of two or more words (can be written with hyphens. ie mother-in-law)
Homophones
Words that are pronounced the same way but have different spelling and meanings.
Verb
Explains action or being in a sentence.
Adjective
A word that is used to modify and noun or pronoun. (ie the third suit is my favorite, this suit is navy blue)
Adverb
A word that is used to modify a verb, adjective, or another adverb
Preposition
A word placed before a noun or pronoun that shows the relationship between an object and another word in a sentence. (ie on, against, by)
Homographs
Words that share the same spelling but have different meanings
Common Noun
Person, place, or thing that is not the official name. These are not capitalized. (ie mom, barn)
Proper Noun
Person, place, or thing that has an official name. These are capitalized. (ie John, France, Empire State Building)
Collective Nouns
Refer to a collective group or multiple number of something. (ie a flock of birds, a class of students)
Possessive Nouns
Describe ownership of something. (Usually done by adding an apostrophe)
