Simile
A simile is a where you compare one object to another by using like or as

Metaphor
A comparison where one thing is said to be another
E.g. The soldier is a lion
Personification
Personification is when you assign the qualities of a person to something that is not alive
E.g. The sun smiled at me
Alliteration
Alliteration is the repetition of the same sound at the beginning of words
E.g. Jumping Jacks
Onomatopoeia
Onomatopoeia is a word that imitates a sound
E.g. BANG! SIZZLE!
Pattern of three
Pattern of three is listing three things to create a specific effect
E.g. Reuse, reduce and recycle
Language for emotive effect
Language for emotive effect is when you use words and phrases deliberately to provoke a specific emotional reaction
E.g. The frail, depressed old lady fell over
Rhetorical question
Rhetorical question is a question that is asked fr affect rather than for an answer
E.g. Seriously why would you do that?
Adjective
Adjective a word that describes a person, place or thing
E.g. The drunk man
Verb
A verb is a doing or being word that has a tense (past, present and future)
E.g. They worked as a team
Phrase
A phrase is a group of words that can be understood as a unit
E.g. It was a story as old as time
Clause
A clause is a type of phrase that includes a subject and an active verb
E.g. I walked the dog
Simple sentence (single-clause sentence)
A simple sentence is the most basic sentence consisting of a subject and a verb
E.g. I laughed
Compound sentence ( a type of multi-clause sentence)
A compound sentence is a sentence that contains two independent clause joined by a coordinating conjunction, such as for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so
E.g. we ate dinner but I needed the toilet
Complex sentence (a type of multi- clause sentence)
A complex sentence is a sentence that has a main clause and one or more subordinate clause.
E.g. The man was going on a date, but didn’t know what clothes to wear
