Generalization
Doesn’t allow for individual difference.
Assonance
Repetition of vowel sounds eg. Slow road to no ware
Paradox
Contradiction seemingly false at first but is found latter to be a truth
Instructive
Inform/enlighten/instruct.
Oxymoron
two words placed next to each other to show contrast eg. Parting is such a sweet
sorrow.
Personification
Giving human qualities to something lifeless eg. The door squeaked.
Parody
Conscious imitation of another word.
Alliteration
Repetition of sound eg. Big Blue Bike.
Rhetorical question
A question which does not require a response for it is implied.
Symbolism
Image used to represent an idea.
Contrast,
To show difference when comparing.
Metaphor
Something is said to be something else eg. You’re a bear.
Similies
Show how something is similar eg Like/as.
Colloquial
Relating to conversation (Conversational/informal)
Emotive
creates emotion, happy, sad
Hyperbole
Deliberate exaggeration for effect. Eg. endless cry of death and pain
Denouement
Resolution of plot
Adjectives
Describing word usually connected to a noun, add emphasis.
Bias
One sidedness in presentation of view/opinion. Can subjectivly influence the reader by intentionly only presenting one side of the argument.
Cliche
Worn-out, over used expressions. Are farmiliar to the reader therefore can offer a shortcut to the meaning.
Colourful words and discriptive language
Words that are hightened, vivid, full of interest. Produce a picture and or an emotion which engages the reader by grabing their attention.
Irony
Implied or intended meaning is different, often the opposite from the literal meaning. A powerful deviced that can be effective in humiliating the opponent, makes the point obviously
Sensationalise
To exagerate abd over-dramatise an issue or point so that it assumes great importance in the publics mind, often evidence in headlines. Grabs the readers attention can invoke a sense of outrage or provke an extreme response.
Pun
A play on words to suggest a different meaning. Positions the reader to enjoy a hoke and grabs their attention.
