A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, or idea.
Pronoun
A word that takes the place of a noun.

Preposition
A word that shows the relationship between a noun (or pronoun) and another word in the sentence.
Conjunction
A word that connects words or groups of words.
Interjection
A word or short phrase that expresses strong feeling or emotion.
Article
A small word used before a noun to show whether it is specific or general.
Subject
The person, place, thing, or idea that is doing or being something in the sentence.
Predicate
The part of the sentence that tells what the subject does or is.
Clause
A group of words that contains a subject and a verb.
Phrase
A group of words that acts as a single part of speech and does not contain both a subject and a verb.
Sentence
A group of words that expresses a complete thought. Must have a subject and a predicate.
Tense
Shows the time of action (past, present, or future).
