Plot?
The events in a story usually with a narrative structure
Resolution?
The conclusion of a story, usually the end
Rising action?
The major part of the plot that usually has some form of conflict
Falling Action?
The point usually after the climax to calm things down
Climax?
The turning point of the story and the highest point of suspense
Exposition
Beginning of the story that has background info to get it started
Conflict?
The problem of the story that the protagonist must face
Flat Character?
character remembered with only 1 personality trait, simple and pridictable
Foil?
Any character that contrasts another character’s personality. Helps the reader understand the other character.
Stock character?
A character recognizable by the reader
i.e.. school bully, nerdy kid, etc.
Minor character
Part of the story but have less impact, usually static or flat
Major characters
Most relevant to the story’s plot and development
Antagonist
The villan of the story who goes against the Protagonist
Protagonist
Central person/main character in the story
Dynamic character
Someone who’s personality changes over time
Static character
Someone who doesn’t change in the story
Round character
Someone with a complex personality and is interesting to readers
Theme
Main idea of the story
3rd person Omniscient
The narrator has unlimited knowledge and can describe every character’s thoughts and interpret their behaviors
3rd person limited omniscient
The narrator tells the story from the viewpoint of one character
3rd person Objective
The narrator remains a detached observer, telling only the stories action and dialogue
2nd person
The story is from the perspective of you
First person
A character in the story retells their own experiences or impressions
Foreshadowing
Hinting something that’ll happen later
Flashback
Used to transport the reader back in time to give info about a previous event.
