Round Character
A highly developed character with many traits.
Character
Individuals who participate in the action of a literary work.
Flat Character
A character that exhibits few traits, they are not well developed, and we know very little about them.
Dynamic Character
One who changes throughout the story.
Static Character
One who remains the same throughout the story.
Direct Characterization
The author directly tells you what that person is like.
Indirect Characterization
You find out about a character through their physical appearance, through thoughts speech and actions,or through thoughts, speech, and actions of other characters.
Internal Conflict
One that occurs within a character.
External Conflict
A character is in conflict with outside force like nature, physical obstacle, or other character.
Plot
Sequence of events in a story.
Setting
Time and place of an action in a work.
Theme
Underlying message about life or human nature that the writer wants the reader to understand.
Allusion
The indirect reference to a famous person,place,event, or literary work.
Diction
Writer or speakers choice of words and way of arranging words in a sentence.
Foreshadowing
A writers use of hints or clues to suggest events that will occur later in the story.
Protagonist
The main character in a work of literature who’s involved in the central conflict.
Antagonist
The principle character or force in opposition to the protagonist.
Tone
The attitude a writer takes towards a subject.
Foil
A character who provides a striking contrast to another character.
