Round Character
Highly developed character with many traits
Character
Individual who participates in the action of a literary work
Flat Character
A character that exhibits few traits, are not well developed, and we do not know much about them
Dynamic Character
One who changes throughout the story
Static Character
One who remains the same throughout the story
Direct Characterization
The author directly tells you what the characters like
Indirect Characterization
Find out about a character through their physical appearance, thoughts, speech, and action
Conflict
A struggle between opposing forces
Internal Conflict
One that occurs within a character
External Conflict
Involves a character pitted against an outside force, such as nature, a physical obstacle, or another character
Plot
The sequence of events in a story
Setting
Time and place of the action in a work
Theme
An underlying message about life or human nature that a writer wants the reader to understand, generally not directly stated, but must be inferred
Allusion
An indirect reference to a famous person, place, event, or literary work
Diction
A writers or speakers choice of words and way of arranging the words in sentences
