Round character
Highly developed character with many traits
Character
Individuals who participate in the action of the literary work
Flat character
A character that exhibits few traits and not well developed and know very little about them
Static character
One who remains the same throughout the story
Dynamic character
A character who changes throughout a story
Indirect characterization
the author describes the physical appearance, the author may present the characters own thoughts, speeches, and actions, the author may present pertinent thoughts, speech, and actions of other characters
Direct characterization
The author tells you what the character is
Theme
Life or human nature that the writer shares with the reader, usually are not stated directly but must be inferred
Protagonist
Main character that is involved in the central conflict
Antagonist
Principle character or force in opposition to a protagonist
Allusion
Indirect reference to a famous person, place, event, or literally work
Diction
Writers or speakers choice of words and way of arranging the words in sentences
Plot
The sequence of events in a story is called the plot
Setting
Time and place of the action
Foil
A character who provides a striking contrast to another character
