Independent clause
it does not contain a full thought. It is used to support a main idea.
Dependent Clause
contains only one independent clause, consisting of a subject and predicate/verb.
Simple Sentence
contains two or more independent clauses joined together with a coordinating conjunction
Compound Sentence
contains one independent clause and one or more dependent clauses joined by a subordinating conjunction.
Complex Sentence
contains two or more independent clauses and at least one dependent clause.
Compound-Complex Sentence
a sentence that is composed of two clauses and expresses a condition and its result
Conditional
dependent clause, (the “if” clause) , also known as Protasis or the clause containing the condition (adverb clause)
Antecedent
independent clause, this is the main clause, also known as Apodosis or the clause containing the conclusion, it expresses the result of the condition.
Consequent
it deals with habits and general truths as laws, it is used for stating facts. The format of zero conditional is “ if/when + simple present…. simple present
Zero Conditional
dealing with things that are possibly or likely to happen in the future. It is also used for showing a condition that has not happened yet but is likely to happen that will result in another thing happening in the future.
First Conditional
it is used in dealing with things that are impossible in the present and are unlikely to happen
Second Conditional
it is used in dealing with things or changes in scenarios yielding to different results
Third Conditional
is also known as communicative style. It portrays how a language is characterized in terms of the degree of formality.
Speech Style
a style that uses informal language. It uses language that is used between friends.
Casual Style
