What is a clause?
A full sentence with a subject and a verb, if it doesn’t have a subject or verb it’s not a sentence or a clause.
What is a phrase?
A group of words that is not a sentence but are related. They never have both a subject and a verb.
What is a dependent clause?
A clause that does not express a complete idea. It leaves the reader “hanging” and thus does not stand alone as a sentence.
What is an independent clause?
A clause that can express a complete idea and can stand alone as a sentence.

How do you identify a verb in a sentence?

How do you identify the subject in a sentence?
“Who or what is doing the verb in a sentence?
For example, He really likes cars.
Who is doing the liking? Sam is doing the liking
This can be tricky when the verb is, is or are.
For example.
The flowers are blooming.
You might think that the verb is blooming but verbs cannot end with ing so the verb must be are because the flowers are.”
How do you use a semi colon when connecting two independent clauses?
“If they are related you can connect them like so,
IC;IC
If you don’t want to use a semi colon you can connect them with and, so or but and a comma:
IC, but IC
Lastly you can use moreover or however with a semicolon and a comma:
IC; moreover, IC”
How do you find out if the so in the sentence is a so as in therefore or a so that as in, in order to.
Put in, therefore for the so and the in order to and do whichever one makes more sense
What is the difference between a dependent clause and a phrase
