Language Features
A figure of speech where a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable (e.g., “time is money”).
Metaphor
A mild or indirect word or expression substituted for one considered to be too harsh or blunt when referring to something unpleasant or embarrassing.
Euphemism
The attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something non-human, or the representation of an abstract quality in human form.
Personification
Exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally.
Hyperbole
The repetition of identical or similar phonemes in words or syllables that occur close together, either in terms of their vowel phonemes or their consonant

The formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named
Onomatopoeia
the action of repeating something that has already been said or written.
Repetition
The linguistic style used for casual communication. It is the most common functional style of speech, the idiom normally employed in conversation and other informal contexts.
Colloquial language
a figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction (e.g. faith unfaithful kept him falsely true ).
Oxymoron
A word that can modify or describe a verb, adjective, another adverb, or entire sentence.
Adverb
the use of symbols to represent ideas or qualities.
Symbolism
a particular form of a language which is peculiar to a specific region or social group.
Dialect
visually descriptive or figurative language, especially in a literary work.
Imagery
the expression of one’s meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect.
Irony
the repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of successive clauses.
Anaphora
