Round Character
Highly developed character with many traits
Character
Individuals who participate in the action of literary work
Flat character
A character that exhibits few traits, not well developed, we know very little about them
Static Character
A character that stays the same throughout the whole story
Dynamic character
One who changes throughout the story
Direct characterization
When the writer tells you exactly what that character is like
Indirect characterization
What others say about them, what the character says, physical appearance, what the character does
Internal conflict
One that occurs within a character
External conflict
Character in conflict with another force, or with another character
Plot
The sequence of events in a story
Setting
Time and place of the action in a work of literature
Theme
Is an under laying message about life or human nature that the writer shares with the reader. Must be inferred
Illusion
Indirect reference to a famous, person, place, event, or literary work
Diction
Writer or speakers choice of words and how they arranged their sentences
Foreshadowing
A writers use of hints or clues to suggest events that will occur later in the story
Protagonist
Main character in a work literature who is involved in the central conflict
