engineering revision cards Flashcards
how do we find the total resistance for a circuit that is in parallel?
Rt=R1*R2/R1+R2
what happens when a single acting cylinder outstroke?
when a single actining cylinder outstrokes it produces a force.
what happens during the outstroke of a double acting cylinder?
During the outstroke of the double acting cylinder, the compressed air pushes against the surface area of the piston in the same way as the single acting cylinder
what happens during the instroke of the double acting cylinder?
during the instroke of the double acting cylinder the surface area is reduced because of the piston rod, this means that the compressed air does not have as big an area to push against and so does not produce a big force
what formula is used when we want to find the force?
F=P*A
how do we find kinetic energy?
Ek=½mv²
what formula do we need to find the radius?
R=√A/π
what is one advantage of a lamp being in parallel rather than in series?
if it is in parallel and one of the lamps breaks the rest will still work (christmas tree lights for example)
what are 2 advantages and disadvantages of using solar power?
2 advantages of using solar power is that it is sustainable for energy consumption and it is renewable 2 disadvantages of using solar power is that there won’t always be sun in some parts of the world and it would only work during the day
what is a transistor?
a transistor is a semiconductor device, this means it is sometimes good at conducting electricity but sometimes not so good.
how do we find the electrical energy?
Ee=ItV
what calculation is used to find the efficiency of a system?
η=Eout/Ein
how do we find the total resistance for a circuit that is in series?
Rt=R1+R2
what formula is used to calculate the area of a circle?
A=πr²
what is the movement multiplier ratio?
movement ratio=number of teeth on driven gear/number of teeth on driver gear
