Engineering Flashcards
What are the 4 phases of the basic steam cycle
Generation, Expansion, Condensation and Feed
Explain Generation phase
Convert water into steam in the boiler making 600main and 600Aux
Expansion phase?
Converts thermal energy into mechanical energy by using the main engine and the SSTGs
Condensation phase?
Converts Steam to liquid by using the main condenser. Which is the stored in the hotwell. Condensate pumps takes suction from hotwell then through Air Ejects to rid of air and non condensable gases. Then goes to DFT
Feed Phase?
Converts condensate into feed
Five components of basic refrigeration cycle
Compressor, condenser, receiver,Thermal Expansion Valve and Evaporators
Deaerate Feed Tank (DFT)
Stores, preheats, & deaerates feed water. Feed water then goes to the boiler using MFBP or MFP
How many DFTs onboard and locations
2 DFTs
1 is in AFT MMR
2 is in FWD MMR
How many boilers onboard and locations
2 Boilers
1 is in AFT MMR
2 is in FWD MMR
What kind of boiler is onboard and why is it called that?
D-type 600lb modified to 700lb. Its called D-Type cause the tubes on the fireside of the boiler is shaped like a D
Where is 600 main steam used?
The main Engine and SSTG
Where is 600 Aux steam used?
Ex.Main Feed Pump (MFP), Fire Flushing Pumps (FFP), Main Feed Booster Pumps (MFBP), &Forced Draft Blowers (FDB)
How many shafts ?
2 shafts Port shaft (longer) STBD shaft (shorter)
Ships Service Turbine Generator (SSTG).
How many are onboard and locations
5 SSTGS
1&2 are in FWD MMR
3 is in AMR
4&5 are in AFT MMR
Parameters of the SSTGs?
60 Hz
450V
2500kw
4009Amps
