Engineering Flashcards
How many catapults do we have?
4
How many catapults can we fire simultaneously?
2
How many gallons of feed water to the catapults hold?
7000 gallons
What is the minimum main steam supply pressure needed to launch an aircraft?
450 PSI
How much feed water is required to perform a catapult shot?
250 gallons
What is the trough fire suppression system?
Uses steam to smother fires
What size risers do we use to supply the catapults?
10 inch and 2 inch
How many AC units do we have?
6
What is the AC capacity?
800 tons
Remove 9,600,000 BTUs of heat
How many reefers do we have?
5
What is the reefer capacity?
7 Ton/remove 84,000 BTU’s of heat
What is the primary purpose of AC?
To keep electronic equipment cool
What is the secondary purpose of AC?
Crew comfort
TXV?
Thermal expansion valve
What is a TXV?
Used to regulate the amount of refrigerant entering the evaporator coil
How many phases are there to the refrigeration cycle?
4
What are the phases to the refrigeration cycle?
- Compression
- Condensation
- Expansion
- Evaporation
What type of refrigerant do we use on board?
R-134A (Tetraflouroethane)
How many chill water loops do we have on board?
1 to 3 loops.
What areas do the loops feed?
- Forward loop
- Midship loop
- Aft Koop
- Island loop
What is the primary function of the water regulating valve?
Maintains constant refrigerant condensation pressure by controlling the quantity of circulating water flowing through the condenser. Actuated by refrigerant pressure.
How many 02N2 Plants do we have?
2
Where are the O2N2 plants located?
- HB1 port side
* HB1 Starboard side
What are the uses of 02?
- Pilots breathing air
* Medical and dental
What are the uses of N2?
- Inflating aircraft tires
- Reboiler layups
- Pilot injection seats
