Engineering Flashcards
How do we make ELECTRICITY?
Relative motion between a magnetic field and a conductor
What is CURRENT?
The flow of electrons.
What is VOLTAGE?
The differential that drives.
What is POWER?
POWER=CURRENT X VOLTAGE
All VITAL POWER get how many sources of power?
2
Name of the generator we have
Allison 501-K
Name of the GTE we use.
GE LM-2500 Marine gas turbine
GTG’s are rated at…(5)
2500 kilowatts 440 volts 4009 amps 3 phase 60Hz
Gravity head tank provides how many minutes of fuel for the GTGS when it’s not being filled?
30 min
HPAC’s are rated at…(3)
Compress 20 cubic feet per hour
At 3000psi
Driven by 50 hp, 440v, 3 phase electric motors.
Where are the LPAC’s located?
Main1, main2, aux1
LAPC separation valve begins to close and closes at what pressure?
Begins to close at 85psi, closes at 80psi
When does the SSS clutch engage?
When the input shaft exceeds the speed of the output shaft.
How many minutes do you have to bring an engine online (release the PT break) when it is in idle?
14 minutes.
What is a LOSCA?
What does it do?
Lube oil storage & conditioning assembly.
It uses 2190 to cool 23699
What oil do we use for all of our GTE’s?
23699
What Lube Oil do we use?
2190
What is the max pitch percentage forward and in reverse?
110% pitch ahead
50% pitch astern
What is the primary and secondary function of the LUBRICATING OIL SYSTEM?
Primary: provide lubrication and cooling for the MRG and thrust bearing assembly.
Secondary: cool the SYNTHETIC LUBE OIL for the propulsion GTE’s
Why do we have electric pumps for CRP?
Because sometimes the ship goes slow.
What is the function of the HOPM and what does it stand for?
HYDRAULIC OIL POWER MODULE
Provides control oil and high pressure oil to oil distribution (OD) box to support CRP change mechanisms.
I.e. Supports CRP pitch change mechanisms.
