Sounding and Security Patrol ( INPORT/UNDERWAY) Sounds tanks, & voids, pumps CHT.

Roves out-of-plant load centers hourly to check of grounds. AT Sea
AMO
Auxiliary machinery Operator (INPORT / UNDERWAY)
Starts, stops and takes reading on AC’s and Reefer’s.

Supervises Catapult spaces.

What is the primary use of the Catapults?
Launch aircraft
What is the Normal Operating Steam Pressure of the catapults?
System that allows Reactor to direct steam to catapults from the propulsion plant and to cut steam if needed.
What type of Fire Suppression System is used for the Catapults?
Steam Smothering
What are the 3 different size Steam Riser and their stage of operation?

What is the major hazard associated with Liquid Oxygen?
It is an Accelerant, explosive, 98% + pure, -298F; Oxygen will explode if introduced to petroleum.
Who approves dumping Oxygen?

What is the Danger of dumping Oxygen?
Dumping could cause damage to the ship’s hull.
What is the major hazard associated with Liquid Nitrogen?
Asphyxiation, -320F
What are the five pieces of Cryogenic PPE?
Gloves, Face shield, Apron, LOX coveralls, LOX boots
During a Cryogenic spill, who is the in charge of the scene?
The Operator or Duty Cryogenics Tech is in charge.
What Equipment does hydraulics shop own?
Anchor windlass, Steering, Aircraft Elevators, deck edge & divisional doors, sliding pad eyes, winches.
What are the different methods of operating the steering gear?
1) From the bridge using the helm.
2) In AFT steering using the trick wheel on the main units.
3) In AFT steering using emergency steering units.
4) SEC-CON in DCC
5) In the ram room using the hand ranch assembly. (Last Resort)
What is the minimum temp prior to operating Hydraulics Power Unit?
125 PSI is the minimum required to light off HCFF.

What are some of the other systems linked to the Fire main system?
Main and Secondary Drainage, Fire Stations, Jet Blast Deflectors, Saltwater reducing stations(for the Heads) Counter Measure Wash down Systems, Sprinkler systems for the Weapons Mags.
During General Quarters how many sections is the Firemain broken into?
4 Sections= 2 PORT/ 2 STBD.
What does CHT stand for?
Collecting Holding Transfer

What type of toxic gas is present with CHT?
Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S). Smells like rotten eggs.
What are the different modes for CHT?
- INPORT: Sewage goes to tank then to shore connection on pier.
- TRANSIT: 3 Miles, waste drains are diverted overboard/ 12-Miles, solid waste is diverted overboard
- AT SEA: 50 miles, oil waste is diverted overboard.
What is the purpose of List control?
System that distributes water to keep the deck level for aircraft launch and recovery.
What is the rating of each list control pumps?
1800 GPM
How many degrees list can be corrected in 20 minutes?
1.5 degrees
How many places can you operate List Control? And where are they?
Two places: Inside 4A Shaft Alley and the MCMS Panel in DC Central.
What type of water is in the system?
POTABLE
Who operates List control?
DCWS and EWS from DC Central and the SSP manually (if necessary).
What device do we use to monitor the ship’s list?
A Clinometer. Found in front of the DCWS, in front of the EOOW and DC Division office.
What other methods do we have available for leveling the deck?
Moving Fuel, Planes, Tilly and Gear
What is the purpose of degaussing?
Reduce magnetization of the ship
Why is degaussing important?
Reduces Ship’s radar signature
