Q

What is Area Recon?

A

Gaining detailed information about a definite geographical area such as towns, woods, or streams - crossing sites.

A town, ridge line, woods, or other features that friendly forces intend to occupy or pass through.

6
Q

Define Area in Area Recon.

A

Delineated with a single continuous line enclosing the area, such as an AO.

Similar to Zone Recon, if AO is a large complex or complex urban area, you can delineate the Area with a LD and LOA.

Use graphic control measures that include routes to and within the AO.

12
Q

What are the variables used in the Route Classification formula for Route Types

A

X - All weather route. Never closed for weather.

Y - Limited. All weather closed for short periods (up to one day at a time) by adverse weather during which heavy use would lead to collapse.

Z - Fair Weather. Passable only in fair weather.

16
Q

What’s the symbol for a constriction?

A

Looks like two triangles pointed at each other. The width of the constriction is on the the left and the length is on the right.

17
Q

What’s the limit on reporting underpass restrictions?

A

Less than 4.3 m

18
Q

What’s the symbol for underpass?

A

A “hump” over the route with the width in meters on the left and the min/max overhead clearance if different.

19
Q

What form is used for Tunnel Recon?

A

DA Form 1250

20
Q

What are the types of Tunnel Bores?

A

Square with arched ceiling

Horseshoe

Elliptical

Semicircular

21
Q

What’s the symbol for a tunnel?

A

Semicircle with bypass symbol pointing to the tunnel on the map. On the left is min/max OHC, below is min/max TWW, and on the right is the length.

22
Q

What’s Ford Recon?

A

A location in water where physical characteristics of the bottom and approaches permit the passage of personnel and/or vehicles and other equipment whose suspensions remain in contact with the bottom.

23
Q

Which was the symbol for a ford oriented?

A

It describes the right bank when standing in the ford and and looking down stream.

24
Q

What is Ferry Recon?

A

Site where traffic and cargo are taken across a river or other water barrier by floating vessel.

It’s considered an obstruction to traffic flow.

Must be (OB) on route classification

25
Q

What is Road Recon? What form is used?

A

Collects detailed information regarding characteristics and trafficability of a road section within a route.

DA 1248

26
Q

What does a road consist of?

A

Road Surface, Base Course, and Subgrade

27
Q

What slopes must you report on a route-classification overlay and what is considered and obstruction?

Calculate slope to the thousandths and then round to nearest whole number after multiplying by 100.

A

> 5% and > 7% is an obstruction

28
Q

What’s the symbol for slope?

A

Double headed arrow with the % written above.

29
Q

What’s the curve formula?

A

R = (C^2 / 8M) + (M/2)

30
Q

What radii must you report?

A

Radius up to 45 and radius < or equal to 25 are obstructions

31
Q

What is the symbol for a curve

A

A triangle pointing to the curve with a number under it for the radius. If multiple curves in a section, the symbol is a triangle with a triangle in it with # of curves/smallest radius underneath.

32
Q

What form is Bridge Recon recorded on?

A

DA From 1249

33
Q

What does LARS stand for?

A

Left Add Right Subtract

34
Q

What does class stand for?

A

Gross Weight (Tons) Tracked

85% of Gross Weight Wheeled

35
Q

What’s the formula for Gross Weight on a wheeled Vehicle?

A

WT = Area(tire) x P(tire pressure) x Number of Tires /2000

A is L x W where L is the length of the tire touching the ground

P is tire pressure if unknown assumed 75psi for a 2 1/2 ton

Always round up

36
Q

What’s the formula for tracked vehicles?

A

Length of Track in contact x Width x Number of tracks

Round up

37
Q

When towing or combining two vehicles what’s the formula for CCN?

A

Combined Classification Number = If A + B < 60 then .9 (A + B) otherwise A + B

Round up and mark with a C on the vehicle sticker
