Engine Start Flashcards
How does engine start begin?
by selecting the GRD position .
What does GRD do?
opens start valve, closes engine bleed valve, arms the selected igniter and allows bleed pressure to rotate the starter.
Once the engine accelerates to ____N2 or _____, the start lever is positioned to idle.
25%; max motoring N2.
What does start lever IDLE position do?
opens the spar and engine fuel valves
Initial FF indications can lag by up to _______.
2 seconds.
What happens at ~ 56% N2?
power is removed from the START switch solenoid. ENGINE START switch returns to AUTO; engine bleed valve returns to selected position; start valve closes; start valve open light goes out.
What does the EEC monitor during ground starts?
engine parameters for hot starts, wet starts, engine stall and EGT exceedances.
If a hot start is detected what happens?
EGT box flashes white; depending on software, ignition and fuel flow are automatically shut off for these faults. .
Ignition and fuel flow are terminated during start when?
EGT exceeds start limit.
What happens in a wet start?
EEC auto shuts off ignition and fuel flow 15 seconds after start lever is moved to IDLE.
If no EGT after 15 seconds after start lever has been moved to IDLE, what happens?
ECC recognizes wet start and shuts off fuel and ignition.
With normal APU start, which engine is started first?
right side
In start phase, move start lever to IDLE when:
N1 movement; 25% N2 or Max motoring and N2>20%
-Max motoring N2 accel
When is a battery start req’d?
Elec AC power source is not avail.
What needs to be checked before start?
anti-collision on; both PACK switches OFF and IGN is in IGN R.
