Q

What does GRD do?

A

opens start valve, closes engine bleed valve, arms the selected igniter and allows bleed pressure to rotate the starter.

Q

What happens at ~ 56% N2?

A

power is removed from the START switch solenoid. ENGINE START switch returns to AUTO; engine bleed valve returns to selected position; start valve closes; start valve open light goes out.

Q

If a hot start is detected what happens?

A

EGT box flashes white; depending on software, ignition and fuel flow are automatically shut off for these faults. .

16
Q

What engine is started first for battery start?

A

engine 1

17
Q

Battery start: Which engine indications are shown until EECs are powered?

A

N1, N2 and Oil QTY.

18
Q

For external air start, which engine is started first?

A

No 1 first to min risk to gnd personnel.

19
Q

For crossfeed start, how should the air panel be set?

A

Engine bleeds on; APU bleed off; pack switches OFF, ISO valve AUTO.

20
Q

Crossfeed start: How far forward should thrust lever be positioned?

A

Until duct pressure reads 30 PSI.

21
Q

In flight start conditions to start this way:

A

N1 rotation; no fire indication; no abnormal airframe vibration.

22
Q

Inflight: a _______ start is req’d if engine shut down more than 1 hour.

A

crossbleed

23
Q

Inflight: Where should the ENGINE START switch be placed for inflight windmill start?

A

FLT

24
Q

Inflight start: move start lever to IDLE at _______.

A

N2 is at or above 11%. Monitor to ensure EGT does not exceed 725C.

25
Q

Inflgith start: Crossbleed needs min duct pressure of ______psi.

A

30 psi

26
Q

Inflight crossbleed start: move ENGINE START switch to _____.

A

GRD

27
Q

Why would you abort an in-flight start?

A

No EGT w/in 30 seconds; N1 or N2 does not increase or increases very slowly after EGT increase; no oil indication by time engine is at idle., EGT rapidly rising to exceed start limit;

28
Q

How do you abort start?

A
  1. Move start lever to CUTOFF
  2. If engine start switch remains in GRD, motor for 60 seconds then move it to AUTO.
    - If switch already in AUTO, wait until N2 is below 20% and the select GRD position for 60 seconds then back to AUTO.
29
Q

T/F: Engine limit protection in alternate mode is the same as normal mode for the EECs

A

false

30
Q

T/F: Dispatch is permitted with ENGINE CONTROL light (next to EECs) on.

A

false

31
Q

If engine oil temp is in amber for more than _____minutes, the engine must be shut down.

A

45 min

32
Q

T/F: You may takeoff if OIL PRESS is in amber band.

A

false

33
Q

With a REVERSER light illuminated, can reverse thrust be expected on landing?

A

Yes, expect normal operation.

34
Q

If any reverse thrust sleeve has moved from the stowed position, the EECs will prevent power above ______

A

idle
