Engine Cycles Flashcards
What are the four processes in the Otto cycle?
1-2: Isentropic compression.
2-3: Constant volume heat addition (combustion).
3-4: Isentropic expansion.
4-1: Constant volume heat rejection.
What is the key difference in heat addition between Otto and Diesel cycles?
Otto: Heat added at constant volume.
Diesel: Heat added at constant pressure.
What is the dual cycle?
Combines constant volume and constant pressure heat addition.
More realistic for actual engines than Otto or Diesel cycles.
What is the compression ratio (rv)?
= V1/V2
Volume before compression (V1)
Volume after compression (V2)
What is the load ratio (α) in the Diesel cycle?
= V3/V2
Volume after heat addition (V3)
Volume after compression (V2)
