Engine Compartment Flashcards
Leaks/Hoses
No pudddles on the ground and dripping fluids on the underside of the engine and transmission. All hoses are in good condition and no leaks.
Oil level
Check oil with engine off, show where dipstick is located, pull dipstick and check that oil level is within safe operating range. Level must be above the refill mark
Coolant level
Inspect reservoir sight glass, if engine is not hot, remove radiator cap and check for visible coolant level
Power steering fluid & pump
Check the dipstick to see where the fluid level is relative to the refill mark or check sight glass. Level must be able the refill mark. It is gear driven
Belts
Operating properly and mounted securely. I am checking belts for snugness no more than 1/2 to 3/4in play at the center of the belt. No cracks, frays, loose fibers, or signs or wear
Water pump
(Belt driven)
Not damaged or leaking and mounted securely to the engine
Alternator belt
Operating properly and mounted securely. Checking belt for snugness no more than 1/2 to 3/4 in play at the center of the belt no cracks, frays, loose fibers or signs of wear.
Air compressor
(Gear driven)
Not damaged or leaking and mounted securely to the engine
Steering Box/ Hoses
Steering box is securely mounted and not leaking. No missing nuts or bolts. No powering steering fluid leaks or damage to power steering hoses
Steering linkage
Connecting links, arms, and rods from the steering box to the wheel are not worn or cracked. Joints and sockets are not loose or worn, no missing nuts, bolts or cutter keys.
