Engine Compartment Flashcards
Lights:
I’m going to walk around vehicle to check all lights, reflectors and reflective tape on the tractor and trailer the same way, Lenses are Clean, not Missing or Broken, reflective tape securely affixed, PROPER COLOR for where they are located amber front and sides, red in the rear.
Leaks
Check for dripping fluids under the engine and transmission and No puddles on the ground such as oil, coolant or fuel.
Hoses and Clamps
Hose clamps are not leaking. Hoses are in good condition, nof damaged or leaking.
Oil Level
- (Identify dipstick location) check that level is at a Safe Operating Range above Add Mark.
Exhaust System
Securely Mounted and Tightly Connected, no loose Clamps or brackets. Check for Dents, Cracks, Holes, and signs of Leaks indicated by BLACK SOOT. Check from engine to the stack.
Alternator Belts
are not Worn, Cracked or Frayed or show loose fibers. Belts Do Not Deflect more than ½ to ¾ of an inch from the center of the belt. DEMONSTRATE
Alternator
- (identify location) Belt driven, Securely Mounted. Operating properly, not damaged. All wires are securely fastened.
Water Pump
(identify location) Gear driven, Securely mounted, operating properly, not damaged or leaking.
Coolant Level
Coolant Level - At a safe operating range. Check the Coolant level through the sight glass if equipped or remove the radiator cap to check the level, but never when it is hot.
Washer Fluid Reservoir
Washer Fluid Reservoir - (identify location) Fluid is above the add mark.
Power Steering Fluid
Power Steering Fluid - (Identify power steering dipstick location) is at safe operating range above
ADD MARK.
Power Steering Hoses -
Power Steering Hoses - Hoses and clamps are in good condition not damaged or leaking.
Power Steering Unit
Power Steering Unit- Gear Driven, Securely mounted, operating properly, not damaged or leaking.
Air Compressor -
Air Compressor - (Identify location) is Gear Driven, Securely Mounted, operating properly, not damaged or leaking.
