Engine Compartment Flashcards
Coolant Reservoir Tank
(Point)
I would check the coolant level by looking at the see-thru tank to be sure it is above the refill mark, which is the safe operating range. I would look for leaks. I could also remove the radiator cap when the engine is not running and is cool to check fluid the fluid level.
Power Steering Reservoir
(Point)
It can be checked by the see-thru tank or by the dipstick to see that it has adequate fluid which is indicated by the fluid being above the refill mark and is not leaking.
Power Steering Unit
(gear driven)
(follow hoses to the back of the engine where they connect to the power steering unit)
is securely mounted and works properly.
it’s not leaking or damaged.
Air Compressor
(gear driven. located behind the power steering unit)
It is securely mounted.
There are no air or fluid leaks, and no missing nuts or bolts.
It operates properly with no damage.
All Hoses, Couplings and Fittings
Are securely connected and not leaking.
They’re not cracked or worn, are not bulging, and there are no signs of abrasive damage from rubbing against other parts.
I would check all hoses, couplings and fittings this same way.
Belts
(Point to each)
The belts on this bus have no cracks or frays, and they don’t show signs of excessive use.
Defelction at the center of the belt should not be more than 1/2 - 3/4 inch and are sung.
I would inspect all the belts in the engine compartment the same way.
Water Pump
(Belt driven)
Securely mounted with no loose or missing bolts.
There are no leaks
Alternator
(Belt driven)
is securely mounted with no loose or missing bolts.
All wires securely fastened with no exposed, broken or burned wiring.
I would inspect all wires on this bus the same way.
Transmission Fluid Level
(Point to the dipstick)
Transmission fluid is within a safe operating range which is above the refill level mark.
Oil Level
(Point to the oil dipstick)
Oil level is within a safe operating range which is above he refill level mark.
