Engine Flashcards
What is the engine make and model?
Lycoming IO-360 L2A
How much horsepower can it produce?
180
How many cylinders and how are they positioned?
four cylinders horizontally opposed
How is the propeller connected? And how is the alternator belt affected?
propeller is directly connected to crankshaft so no gear reduction or direct drive and alternator rotates around propeller providing electricity.
What are the strokes of the engine?
Intake, compression, combustion, exhaust
Carburetor or Fuel injected system?
Fuel Injected
how is the engine cooled?
Air cooling system
what does the power plant include
Propeller, engine, and other components
Cylinders Containing the
Intake exhaust valve, spark plugs and pistons.
Crank Case contains?
Crank Shaft and connecting rods
Accessory Housing containing?
Magnetos
Fuel to air ratio?
15:1
Why do you lean the mixture?
Smoother engine operation, more power, better fuel efficiency and avoiding carbon build up on spark plugs
When do you lean mixture?
Using 75% power or less. Above 3000 feel MSL
Air enters the inlets in the nose and is directed
across cylinders by the baffles then leaves through the bottom carrying the cowling heat with it.
