Energy via Heat Flashcards
What is conduction?
> the movement of energy through a solid
>the electrons in a piece of metal can leave their atoms and move about transferring energy from one atom ot another
What are the key aspects of a good conductor?
> less electrons in the outer shell
>more shells or periods so the forces of attraction are weaker
What is zero Kalvin?
> -273.15 degrees Celsius
>absolute zero where there is no energy
What is u-value?
> measurement of insulators
>u-value of 0 is a perfect insulator
What colour emits the best and what emits the worst?
> black is the best at emitting
>silver is the worst at emitting
What is Specific Heat Capacity?
> the amount of energy needed to change a known volume of any material by 1 degree Celsius
