energy types and their uses Flashcards
what is ATP?
ATP is short for Adenosine TriPhosphate (ATP)
it is Chemical energy that your body uses for everyday activities For the immediate release of energy. As soon as it is made, it’s used.
What is ATP made from? are there different versions of ATP?
ATP Made from ADP (Adenosine Diphosphate)
ADP + p1 ⇒ ATP
ADP is made from AMP (Adenosine Monophosphate)
AMP +p1 ⇒ ADP
what is glucose?
Glucose is a sugar used by the body as energy ( formula for glucose is C₆H₁₂O₆)
how is glucose better than ATP?
Glucose is a better storage for long term
ATP is used for short term energy
It can gold 90x the energy ATP holds
what energies are made from the light dependent reaction?
ATP and NADPH
what is NADPH?
another form of energy made from photosynthesis.
how is NADPH formed?
it is formed when NADP+, a electron carrier which takes electrons and hydrogen to form NADPH.
what is an electron carrier?
A carrier molecule is a compound that can accept a pair of high energy electrons and transfer them to another molecule (like oven mitts).
High energy electrons require specific carriers
what is an Ion?
An ion is any charged particle (positive or negative).
