Energy Transformations Flashcards
What does autotrophs and heterotrophs mean?
Auto: Capable of making their own food
Hetero: Not being able to make their own food
What are the ingredients needed for plants to make food?
•sunlight
•water
•CO2
What are the stages of food-making?
- Light reaction stage
- Dark reaction stage/Calvin cycle
What are the two stages of food making?
- Light reaction stage
- Dark reaction stage/Calvin cycle
Light dependent reactions: what are its definition, goal and where does it takes place?
Def: Use of energy to make molecules needed for next stage.
Goal: Produce ATP and NADPH.
Takes place: thylakoid
Parts inside of the chloroplast:
Outer membrane, inner membrane, stroma, thylakoid ( plural: grana, one composition: granum)
If no photosynthesis.…
No food, no life, and only light independent bacteria exist (chemosynthetic)
In the PS2, chloroplast pigments absorbs sunlight then reaches the electron reaction center.
1st step
What is step 2 of atp process?
Charged electrons would be excited to go out to electron acceptors
In step 3, Excited electrons leaves the PS2 oxidized then enter the electron transport chain. What is next??
As the ps2 lacks electrons, it takes energy electrons by splitting H2O into:
2 Hydrogen ions
1 Oxygen atom
2 Electrons
Enumerate in order the electron acceptors in ATP process:
Pq - Plastoquinone
Cc - Cytochrome complex
Pc - Platocyanin
As electrons move, they create energy that pumps in hydrogen ions from stoma to thylakoid which makes it concentrated.
4th step
Last part of atp making process:
Hydrogen ions soon fled through ATP synthase. Phosphate is added to ADP to make ATP
What is produced in ATP process?
Oxygen
Another names for PSII and PSI
PSII - P680
PSI - P700
