what is a black body?

A

an object which absorbs all the radiation it emits, therefore doesn’t reflect or transmit radiation, it only absorbs and emits all of the radiation.

A

the object is absorbing infrared radiation at the same rate at which it is emitting radiation. an object at a constant temp also emits radiation across a continuous range of wavelengths.

explain what happens to the black body radiation as its temperature increases (in terms of its intensity and wavelength)

A

at a lower temperature, the intensity of the black body radiation is lower overall for all wavelengths, at higher temperatures, the black body radiation is more intense and increases in intensity to the peak much faster, therefore the peak of radiation occurs in wavelengths much shorter.

the hotter the object the more short radiation that is emitted, hence causing some to glow
