Energy Transfer Flashcards
Thermal energy
The energy of particles in motion
Energy transfer
The process by which thermal energy moves from one place to another
Radiation
the transfer of heat energy by way of electromagnetic radiation; like the following: Candles, burning wood, incandescent lamps, usually anything that burns radiates heat.
in the case of the experiment, our shield lamps burned, produced heat, and heated the beakers, the soil, and the water, WITHOUT ACTUALLY TOUCHING THEM.
Conduction
the transfer of heat energy from one particle to another; particles move in response to delivered heat, bump into other particles, and move heat through the substance
Convection
the transfer of heat energy from a group of particles to another group of particles; can only happen in fluids {liquids and gases}
due to flowing particle
Temperature
the primary vital weather statistic in any
report or forecast; measures the thermal energy of the air, which is the average kinetic energy of the particles in a system
