System?
Single object (eg air in a piston) or group of objects (eg two colliding objects) that you are interested in
Closed systems?
Where neither matter nor energy can enter or leave. The net change in the total energy of a closed system is always zero.
Energy transfers?
Occurs when a system changes. Energy can be transferred into or away from a system or between different types of energy stores.
How many ways can emery be transferred?
Four:
- mechanically
- electrically
- by heating
- by radiation
Mechanically?
An object moving due to a force acting on it, eg pushing, pulling, stretching or squashing.
Electrically?
A charge (current) moving thorough a potential difference eg charges moving round a circuit
By heating?
Energy transferred from a hotter object to a colder object, eg heating a pan of water on a hob
By radiation?
Energy transferred by eg light/sound waves (for example, energy from the sun reaching earth by light)
