energy systems Flashcards
1
Q
phosphagen system
A
a fast but short lived system. provided immediate energy by breaking down stored ATP and creatine phopshate in muscles. supports short high intensity activities (10-15s)
2
Q
glycolytic system
A
gives energy for moderate duration’s. breaks down glucose & glycogen into pyruvate, producing ATP 4 moderate intensity activites (30s-2min) operates anaerobically but produces lactic acid as by product
3
Q
oxidative system
A
slow but gives sustained energy over long periods. uses oxygen to break down carbs, fats & sometimes proteins. supports long duration, low intensity activities. slowest but most efficent.
