Energy Systems Flashcards
What energy system(s) are used during a 100m race?
Answer: Phosphagen (under 6 seconds)
Activities that last 6-30seconds primarily utilize the phosphagen and glycolytic.
30-120s = glycolytic
120-180s (2-3min) = glycolytic and oxidative
What is the energy system + substrate for a 400m swim ? (>4minutes)
Liver glycogen and fatty acids
(muscle glycogen is used in more moderate to high intensity activities)
(creatine phosphate (CP) used in extremely high intensity, short duration activities)
Series of reactions in which free fatty acids are broken down, resulting in the formation of Acetyl-CoA and hydrogen protons?
Beta oxidation
What energy system utilizes the electron transport chain?
Aerobic training (utilizes slow glycolysis and fat oxidation for ATP production, which uses ETC).
