Energy stores/systems Flashcards
What is energy
A property that has to be transferred in order to perform work or heat on the object
What is the unit of energy
Joules
Name examples of a chemical energy store
Batteries or food
Name examples of gravitational energy store
Any object that can fall like a ball being thrown
An example of a kinetic energy store
Any object that is moving like a human running
An example of an elastic energy store
Any object that has been stretched or compressed like a spring
An example of a thermal energy store
Anything giving of heat like a radiator
An example of a vibrational energy store
Anything producing a sound like a persons voice
An example of a nuclear energy store
Nuclear power station or nuclear bomb
An example of magnetic energy store
Magnetic field
An example of an electrical energy store
Electric field
What are the ways energy can be transferred
Light, sound, heating, work done and electric current
An example of an energy transfer
A ball being thrown up, it goes from kinetic energy to gravitational potential energy and then as it hits the ground it goes back into kinetic energy again
Another example of an energy transfer
A moving object hitting an obstacle, it goes from kinetic energy into thermal energy and vibrational energy
