Energy stores and transfers Flashcards
magnetic energy
The energy stored when repelling poles have been pushed closer together or when attracting poles have been pulled further apart.
chemical energy
The energy stored in chemical bonds, such as those between molecules.
kinetic energy
The energy of a moving object.
electrostatic energy
The energy stored when repelling charges have been moved closer together or when attracting charges have been pulled further apart.
elastic potential
The energy stored when an object is stretched or squashed.
gravitational potential
The energy of an object at height.
nuclear energy
The energy stored in the nucleus of an atom.
thermal energy
The total kinetic and potential energy of the particles in an object, in most cases this is the vibrations of particles. In hotter objects, the particles have more thermal energy and vibrate faster.
Name the four energy transfers
mechanically
electrically
thermally
by radiation
What does CK GET MEN (this) TERM stand for?

What is the conservation of energy?
Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred from one store to another.
Three ways of thermal energy transfer?
Conduction, convection and radiation
Conduction: In solids, liquids or gases?
solids
Convection: In solids, liquids or gases?
liquids and gases
Talk about the colour black in terms of emission and absorption
good absorber and emitter
