Energy Stores and Pathways (Physics) Flashcards
Energy stores
Where energy is stored, there are 8 of them
Thermal energy store
The hotter something is the more energy it has in its thermal store
Gravitational potential store
The higher up something is, the more energy it has in its Gravitational potential store
Chemical store
Anything with energy that can be released by a chemical reaction
Kinetic store
Anything that moves has energy in its Kinetic store
Elastic potential store
Anything stretched has energy in this store
Electrostatic store
Two electric charges that attract or repel have energy in this store
Magnetic store
Magnets that attract or repel have energy in this store
Nuclear store
The energy stored in the nucleus of an atom
Energy Pathway
How energy is transferred from one store to another
Mechanical work
A force moving an object through a distance
Electrical work
Charges moving due to a potential difference
Heating
Due to temperature difference caused electrically or by chemical reaction
Radiation
Energy transferred as a wave, eg light and infrared - the Sun emits light radiation and infrared radiation
How many energy pathways are there?
4
Imagine a trebuchet, it starts off with elastic potential , what does it turn into?
The kinetic and thermal energy store As well as gravitational potential.
When a kettle is heated up what energy stores are there in the water?
Thermal energy store
If I put a magnet on a fridge what store we=ould the energy be in
The magnetic store
A wing up toy when it’s been wound up and is now spinning has energy in what store
Thermal and kinetic store
If Kinetic energy turned to Thermal what pathway has it used?
Heating
