Energy stores Flashcards
What is the energy conservation law?
Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be transferred between different ENERGY STORES and different objects.
What are the 8 energy stores?
Thermal Kinetic Gravitational potential Elastic Chemical Magnetic Nuclear Electrostatic
What is work done?
Work done is another way of saying energy transferred.
What is the equation for kinetic energy?
Kinetic energy= 1/2 x M (mass) x V²(speed (m/s²)
What happens to an object when it is lifted?
The higher an object is lifted, the more energy is transferred to a store.
What does the amount of energy in a GPE store depend on?
The amount of energy in a G.P.E store depends on the objects mass, its height and the strength of the G.P.E store of the raised object.
Is all the energy transferred from an object usefully to the store that you want it to go to?
NO- when an energy transfer takes places, some energy is always dissipated/wasted.
What is a ‘closed system’?
Closed system= like a closed water bottle or a closed oven.
What is the net change of a closed system?
It is always ZERO as no energy has left the system.
How do you work out power(rate of energy transfer)?
Power(W) = Energy(J) / Time(S)
