Energy Resources Flashcards
What is the benefit of developing new forms of energy
Allow time to develop new activities and make life easier (not all human labour, hard work)
What did the development of smelting metals using wood and charcoal enable
Useful items such as, cutting blades, nails, ploughs and other tools.
What did the manufacture of steam engines in the 1700s help
Pump water out of mines, transporting goods, drive timber saws and grain-threshing machines,
What type of fuel is electricity
A secondary fuel
Why isn’t it great to convert primary fuels to secondary fuels
It’s not 100% efficient, reduces amount of energy available to be used
Give examples of direct use of per-capita energy consumption
Heating and lighting homes, cooking, personal transport, use of electric appliances
Give examples of indirect uses of per capita energy consumption
Commercial organisations (schools, gov, and industries that provide goods) eg transport of goods, manufacturing products, water treatment, energy used in agriculture
How does affluence affect energy
Higher affluence uses more energy consumption (contradict, buy energy saving products)
Supply and demand set prices of global market
