energy resources Flashcards
description of fuels?
burn fuels to produce heat which can then turn water into steam to turn turbines
description of water
hydroelectric uses GPE of water to turn turbines which generates electricity
description of waves
waves contain energy in the form of KE
description of Geothermal
heat from underground is used to create steam which turns turbines producing electricity
description of nuclear fission
nuclear fuel is reacted producing heat which creates steam
description of solar heating
light form the sun can be used to warm water
description of solar cell
solar cells can use light to create electricity
description of wind
wind turbines use the wind to turn the turbines which generate electricity
what are the advantage’s of fossil fuels
fossil fuels are reliable, can generate a lot of electricity and are cost effective
what are the disadvantage’s of fossil fuels
fossil fuels produce a lot of greenhouse gases and pollution
what are the advantage’s of water
hydro is reliable, produces a lot of energy and has no pollution or green house gasses
what are the disadvantage’s of water
Tidal is not reliable, can cause a lot of flooding in rural areas and wildlife and dams are very expensive to build
what are the advantage’s of geothermal
reliable and cost effective
what are the disadvantage’s of geothermal
a lot of harmful gasses from underground can be released and doesn’t generate a lot of electricity
what are the advantage’s of nuclear
reliable and can produce a lot of energy from a small amount of fuel, no pollution or green house gasses are made
