Energy Forms & Transformations Flashcards
What is a Radiation?
Energy that is radiated or transmitted in the form of rays, waves, or particles
What is a Conduction?
The direct transfer of heat from one substance to another substance that it is touching
What is an Original Source of Energy?
Sunlight/energy from the Sun
What are Thermodynamics?
The study of energy transformations that occur in a collection of matter
What is Sound Energy?
Energy caused by an object’s vibrations
What is Fahrenheit?
A temperature scale with the freezing point of water 32 degrees and the boling point of 212 degrees
What is Electrical energy?
Energy caused by the movement of electrons
What is Electromagnetic Radiation?
A form of energy that exhibits wavelike behavior as it travels through space
What is an Electron flow?
Current of negative charges in motion. Direction is from the negative terminal of the voltage source, through the external circuit, and returning to the positive side of the source. Opposite to the direction of conventional current
What is an example of Conduction?
Touching a hot cup of coffee
What is Nuclear Energy?
Energy that is located in the nucleus/core of an atom
What is Elastic Potential Energy?
The energy of stretched or compressed objects
What is a Convection?
The transfer of heat by the movement of a fliud (liquid or gas)
What is Thermal energy (heat)
Kinetic energy associated with the random movement of atoms or molecules
What is an Energy Transformation?
A change from one form of energy to another
