Energy Flow In Ecosystems Flashcards
What is an autotrophic plant
It is a plant that can make its own food
What is a heterotrophic plant
It is a plants or animal that cannot make its own food
What is a herbivore
They feed off of plants a only and are primary consumers
What is a carnivore
They feed off of meat only and are secondary consumers
What are hunters
They are normally carnivores, the primary consumers that eat the prey
What is a scavenger
They are carnivores that eat the carcasses of some animals
What are omnivores
They eat both meat and plants and can fit into both roles of the primary and secondary consumers
What is a insectivore
They eat bugs, insects and small invertebrates
What is a decomposed
A decomposer is an animal or plant that breaks down dead matter
What is a producer
A producer is a plant that produces the food chain with energy
What does “tropic” mean
It means what place the animal or plant has gotten the original energy from. ( a frog being the 3rd tropic level bc its the third animal to get energy from the original plant )
After the first transfer from the producer to the primary consumer how much energy is transferred and left
As little as 10%
