Energy: energy sources Flashcards
What is a fossil fuel?give examples.
A fossil fuel is an energy source which has taken millions of years. Coal, natural gas and oil are some examples.
Why is a fossil fuel bad for the environment/us?
Fossil fuels are bad for us and the environment because:
- when burnt they release carbon emissions which are bad for the environment.
- they also take millions of years to be made which means they cannot be restored again.
What type of energy is stored in a fossil fuel?
Chemical potential energy.
What is a renewable source of energy? give examples.
A renewable source of energy is a source of energy which has NOT taken millions of years to form and are good for the
environment. Examples include thermal power, solar power, hydroelectric, wind turbines etc.
What does non-renewable mean?
Non-renewable means a thing which cannot be replaced
What does finite mean?
Finite means, a resource which will never run out/
