Energy And Work Flashcards
A unit used to measure energy and work. One calorie is equal to 4.18; one joule of work is done when a force of one newton moves an object one meter.
Joule
Stored energy; The energy an object has due to its position, molecular arrangement, or chemical composition
Potential energy
The energy of motion. A moving object has the most kinetic energy at the point where it moves the fastest
Kinetic energy
A combination of the kinetic energy and potential energy an object has
Mechanical energy
No matter how energy is transferred or transformed, all of the energy is still present somewhere in one form or another
Conservation of energy
The rate at which work is done
Power
The unit of measurement for power, which is equal to one joule of work done or energy transferred in one second. For example, a 75 W light bulb concerts electrical energy into heat and light at a rate of 75 joules per second
Watt
The unit of measurement of power for engines and motors. One horsepower equals 745 watts
Horsepower
The use of force to move an object over a distance
