Energy Flashcards
what is heat energy?
Heat energy changes the temperature of objects, state of objects and causes expansion
What is light energy?
Light energy allows us to see things
What is sound energy?
Sound energy is produced by vibrations and allows us to hear
What is electrical energy?
This type of energy travels through conducting wires. Power stations, generators and batteries are sources of electrical energy
What is potential (stored)?
Gravitational potential energy is the type of energy which objects have when they are held up high.
Stretched or compressed elastic materials or springs have elastic potential energy
What is kinetic energy?
Moving objects have this type of energy
What is chemical energy?
Food and fuels have this type of energy. The energy is released when they go through chemical changes.
What is nuclear energy?
This type of energy is in the nucleus of atoms. Is it usually released when the nucleus splits or decays
What is energy?
Energy is required to make anything change or happen
State eight basic forms of energy
Heat, light, sound, electrical, potential (stored), kinetic, chemical and nuclear
Can energy change from one form to another?
Yes
Can energy be created or destroyed?
No
Where do animals get energy from?
They get energy from food
What is energy measured in?
Joules (j) and kilojoules (kj)
What is our main source of energy?
The sun
