Energy Flashcards
What is energy and electricity measured in?
Energy-Joules
Electricity-Watts
What are the uses for energy?
To power lights, stoves and machines.
Name 3 types of energy.
Solar energy, wave energy and geothermal energy.
What’s the difference between non-renewable energy and renewable energy?
You can’t get non-renewable energy back once you have used it, but renewable energy (e.g. solar energy) can be used forever.
What are the 3 fossil fuels?
Oil, natural gas and coal.
How are fossil fuels created?
When a plant dies and decomposes, leaves and dirt come in top of it, until the immense heat and pressure turn it into coal, oil or natural gas.
How is a fossil fuel used?
Once either coal, oil or natural gas has been formed and found, it is burned to create energy.
Why are fossil fuels a bad source of energy?
They contribute to global warming.
Why are energy sources such as solar power and wind power better for us than fossil fuels?
Because they are renewable and environmentally friendly.
Name 5 energy stores.
Electrical energy, thermal energy, wave energy, light energy and kinetic.
