Energy Flashcards
What is the conservation of energy
Energy can be transferred usefully stored or displaced but could never be created or destroyed
When energy is transferred between stores is all the energy useful
No some energy is always displaced or as we call wasted energy
What is the term called when energy is dissipated
Wasted energy
What is the definition of power
The rate of doing work how much per second
What is power measured in
Watts kilowatts
What are the two equations for power
Power equals energy transferred (E) Over (P) or power is equal to p= work /t
Where does conduction mainly occur in
Conduction mainly occurs in solids
Defined the process of conduction
Conduction is the process where vibrating particles transfer energy to neighbouring particles
In conduction where is the Energy transferred to and how do the particles transfer energy
Energy that is transferred to object by heating is transferred to the thermal store of the object then is shared across the ke stores of all the particles
How did the particles then transfer energy to the neighbouring particles
The particles which are heated collide with each other these collisions cause the transfer of energy
Define the process of convection
Convection is where energetic particles move away from the heat to cooler regions
In what physical state does convection mostly occur in
Liquids and gases
What happens in the process of Convection
Again when energy is transferred by heating to an object it is the thermal store of liquid and gas again this energy is shared across the kinetic energy stores of the gas or liquid particles but Unlike solids The particles are able to move this causes the density of the region being heated to decrease because the individual particles are moving away from the region
Name one real life of situation where. Convection takes place and describe how it works
Energy is transferred from the radiator to a nearby air particles called by conduction the air by the radiator becomes warm and less dense as the particles move quicker this warm air rises and is replaced by cool air is then heated by the radiator at the same time the previous air transfers energy to the surroundings it becomes denser and this cycle repeats causing the flow that circulating around the room
