energy 2 Flashcards
energy transfer
when energy moves from one place to another
pathway
ex: conducting wires that connect the two terminals of the batteries
open and closed circuits
open circuits: an open circuit is a circuit in which the path is incomplete which means there is no flow of current. closed circuit: a closed circuit is a circuit in which the path is complete and there is a flow of current in the entire path
switch
a switch is an electrical component that is used to turn on and off any equipment like a television, washing machine, lights, fans, etc
electric current
electric current is the flow of electric charge from one place to another in a circuit
electric circuit model
an electric circuit has to have a power source, wires for the electricity to flow through and a device such as a lamp or a motor that uses the electric current
insulators
substances that do not allow an electric charge to pass through. ex: glass, air, cotton, plastic, rubber and wood
conductors
substances that an electric charge can pass through without diffuculty. ex: powerlines, fences for livestock , battery jumper cables, powering electric devices also copper , aluminum, iron steel, gold and silver
source
such as a battery
user
such as a lightbulb
